Our Consett based client is a Community Fire Station that is part of the wider County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service.
Consett Community Fire Station started it’s life in 1958, as a replacement to the existing station which was constructed using prefabricated huts and a brick built garage area. The older station was in poor repair and the community was in need of a more permanent updated facility. The station as we know it was finally completed by 1961 and officially opened by County Councillor J.D Robson, C.BE., D.L.
Since then the station has received various updates including an extension which houses the Community Safety Centre which was opened in 2008.
The Community Fire Station reached out to EcoFuture to help lower their carbon footprint as well as generate their own energy to help power the facility and be less reliant to the grid. This was achieved with a 42 in-roof panel system spread across two roof tops of the station.

About this commercial solar PV system
Maximum Efficiency
First stage of the install was to erect the scaffolding to gain access to the two roof elevations of the facility. We took into account that access was needed at all times for both fire crew and pedestrians so regular service was not interrupted.
The second stage of the project was installing the Solar PV system. We removed the excess tiles from the two locations and installed the GSE in-roof trays before attaching the solar panels. The array consists of 42x Jinko Tiger Neo 435Wp All Black solar panels which were spread across the main roof (32 panels) and appliance roof (10 panels) of the facility.
While the solar array was being installed we fitted a Solis 20kW S5 3 Phase Inverter with wifi dongle. This was installed inside the electrical cupboard with full DC runs leading directly to both PV systems. The final stage of the project involved a full handover pack, a demonstration of the whole system with tutorial.
The installation went smoothly with no interruption to the stations day-to-day operations and was completed within a week

Our Consett based client went for a full 42 panel solar array system which will dramatically lower their energy bills, carbon usage and also allow them to be less reliant on the grid.
The new system will generate and supply the facility with clean, free energy directly from the sun which can then be used for the stations services. As the client does not have battery storage available on site, any unused energy generated can be sent back and sold to the grid for even more savings.
We estimate that the client will save roughly £5,245 annually on their electricity bills and lower their carbon usage by as much as 5 tons per year. This is the equivalent of 99 long haul flights a year or 887 trees planted.

How did we install this system?
Since the facility is a Fire Station that provides vital services to the surrounding areas, it was integral that we do not disrupt any access for both staff and pedestrians. It was also important that the works do not interrupt any services at any time from start to finish of the project. We made it our upmost priority at stage 1 to erect the scaffolding across both roof elevations of the site as efficiently as possible.
We expertly installed the in-roof trays and PV system as quickly and smoothly as possible without blocking entryways to the site, with installation being completed within a week of the start date.
The project was completed with a full commission and handover, along with a walkthrough of the system with the client.
